Having joined Ashersons in 1962, Senior Partner, Conveyancer and Notary Public, Jonathan Asherson, has more than 45 years of general legal experience. Jonathan was a pioneer in Franchising Law in South Africa, and has extensive knowledge of Ecclesiastical Law, including the establishment of religious institutions in foreign countries. His knowledge and application of Commercial Law and the Law of Wills and Administration of Estates and Trusts, has resulted in Jonathan’s involvement in various precedent setting cases both in South Africa and abroad.
Rafi Weiner
Partner, Rafi Weiner, joined Ashersons in 1981. His areas of expertise include Family, Aviation and Administrative Law where he is one of a few attorneys in Cape Town who represent billboard companies. He also has extensive experience in Commercial Litigation, where he specialises in Insolvency and Commercial Law. He has more than 20 years experience in the drafting and preparation of commercial agreements. Rafi also has expertise in Criminal Law, particularly with regard to asset forfeiture and commercial and customs fraud. Rafi leads the firms Labour Law Department and is a learned practitioner in all aspects thereof.
Selwyn Zackon
Selwyn Zackon, a Partner at Ashersons, joined the firm in 1985. Selwyn’s expertise lie in Commercial Law. His knowledge thereof takes him to various countries, particularly on the continent of Africa, where he is involved in brokering international commercial deals. His extensive understanding of Company Law has enabled Selwyn to become an astute Commercial litigator, particularly in the Law of Insolvency. He has an excellent knowledge of Intellectual Property Law, including copyrights, trademarks and patents, and is one of a few lawyers who is a specialist in Liquor Licences.
Andrew Goldschmidt
Andrew Goldschmidt, an Associate at Ashersons, has been with the firm since 2007. He has experience in contentious as well as non-contentious corporate and commercial matters ranging from the drafting of commercial contracts to commercial litigation, with particular regard to corporate and contractual disputes. Andrew has experience in all aspects of insolvency related matters including Liquidation and Sequestration applications. He is also experienced in third party claims against the Road Accident Fund and he has been involved in advising clients on matters pertaining to the new National Credit Act and the Consumer Protection Act.
Tamasen Maasdorp
Tamasen Maasdorp, an Associate, Conveyancer and Notary Public, joined Ashersons in 2008. She is experienced in all aspects of Family Law, general Litigation, and Commercial Law including the drafting of various agreements. She also has extensive knowledge and expertise in the Law relating to Wills, Administration of Estates, Antenuptial Contracts, and Immigration.
